En wat voor een singer-songwriter. Thomas Dybdahl heeft veel gevoel
voor Americana, maar het is wel duidelijk dat hij niet opgroeide
op de prairie maar in de buurt van de Noorse fjorden. Niettemin werd
het grootste deel van zijn albums ‘…That Great October
Sound’ en ‘Stray Dogs’ in elkaar gezet te New York.
Ook andere plekken op d’aardbol leverden inspiratie, want voor
een 21ste eeuwse singer-songwriter is heel de wereld zijn honk en
in plaats van prairies of fjorden is het eerder de bovenkant van
een wolkendek of het blauw van cyberspace waar hij op uitkijkt. En
dan toch de tradities van het muzikantenschap in ere houden, dat
is knap. Het leverde hem al gouden platen en felbegeerde onderscheidingen
op.

One of the best in this league, Thomas Dybdahl has a great sense
of Americana, but it is clear that he grew up closer to the Norwegian
fjords than to the prairie. Still the bigger part of his albums ‘…That
Great October Sound’ and ‘Stray Dogs’ were made in
New York. Inspiration also comes from other places: a 21st century
singer-songwriter is at home as much in the prairie or in fjords as
much as above the clouds or in cyberspace. It is an accomplishment
these days to stay true to old-fashioned songwriting skills. It has
won him gold records and several important awards.
