Echt goeie rock ‘n’ roll kan niet zonder drugs. Herstel:
echt goeie rock ‘n’ roll kan niet zonder The Drugs. Het
is een provocerende naam, dat beseffen Martin, Petur en Teade ook
wel. Maar ook zonder de geijkte chemische hulpmiddelen kregen ze
al verheffende ervaringen bij het uitoefenen van hun favoriete muziekstijl.
Dat was al zo in hun vorige bands Graveciggers, T-99, Skelter en
Mobile en dat is nog sterker het geval in The Drugs. Hun high wordt
verder aangelengd met dampen van blues, soul en country, tot een
kleurrijk delirium het gevolg is. Verslavende band (een te voor de
hand liggend slotwoord om te laten lopen).

Real rock ‘n’ roll cannot do without drugs. Or better:
real rock ‘n’ roll can’t do without The Drugs. Martin,
Petur and Teade are aware of their provocative name. But they need
neither the name nor the stuff to get high on their music. This was
no different in any of their previous bands (Gravediggers, T-99, Skelter
and Mobile), but in it wasn’t until The Drugs that their talent
and devotion really fell into place. A searing mix of blues, soul and
country takes both the band and the audience into a vibrant delirium.
An addictive band indeed.
