De Denen hadden een mooi woord voor de muziek van de Beatles en de
Rolling Stones, toen zij de wereld veroverden: pigtraad, oftewel
prikkeldraad. The Blue Van acht dat ook een fantastische term voor
hun eigen muziek: ruige boogierock die het beste van Jimi Hendrix,
Howlin’ Wolf, Cream, Who en twee kratten bier in zich verenigt.
Hun tittelloze debuutalbum klinkt dan ook alsof Denemarken de laatste
drie decennia populaire muziek compleet heeft overgeslagen. Wij progressieve
typjes moeten normaal gesproken natuurlijk niks van zulk conservatisme
hebben, maar zo godsonmogelijk aanstekelijk als de stoere mannen
van The Blue Van hun waarden uitventen, daar kan menige politicus
nog wat van leren.

The Danish had a great word for the music of the Beatles and the
Rolling Stones when they conquered the world: pigtraad, or barbed wire.
The Blue Van use the same term for their own music: raw boogie rock
combining the best of Jimi Hendrix, Howlin’ Wolf, Cream, Who
and two crates of beer. Their self-titled debut sounds as though Denmark
has skipped the past three decades of music. Yet even the most progressive
music fan will have to admit that The Blue Van’s tough guys are
catchy and convincing.
