Lange tijd koesterden The Frames zich in de underdog-positie. Niemand wil ons horen en we zijn nog Iers ook, dat was de gedachtenwereld waarin de mannen leefden. Tot ze als co-hoofdact op een festival in Dublin een publiek van 30.000 liefhebbers in extase brachten – luttele maanden nadat hun live-album ‘Set List’ de Ierse albumlijsten had aangevoerd. The Frames waren op slag geen underdogs meer, maar echte helden die in hun concerten dezelfde blije bezieling weten te leggen als landgenoten U2 en de ook niet van Iers bloed verstoken Bruce Springsteen. Hun muziek is anders, iets donkerder en bezonkener van toon, wat stekeliger ook. Maar wat wil je met een held als Steve Albini aan het productionele roer van hun vierde album ‘For The Birds’.

For a long time the Frames have cherished their underdog position. No one wants to hear us, and moreover, we’re Irish – such was their frame of mind. No longer so when they headlined a festival in Dublin and made the 30,000 people in the audience go wild. This was only few months after their live album Set List had topped the Irish album charts. At once they weren’t underdogs anymore but they were heroes. In positive energy and vitality their performances equal fellow countrymen U2 as well as Bruce Springsteen, who also has Irish blood running through his veins. Their music is somewhat darker and deeper, and a little more edgy. Which shouldn’t be surprising knowing they had Steve Albini produce their fourth fabulous album ‘For The Birds’.
