Noorwegicana
Hij heeft zichzelf al heilig verklaard, onze Thomas Hansen. Anders hadden De Bladen het wel gedaan, want St. Thomas maakt indruk. Zijn tweede album ‘Hey Harmony’, en wat een toepasselijke titel, oogstte al net zulke juichende recensies als het debuut ‘I’m Coming Home’. St. Thomas (er is ook een eiland dat zo heet, en een calypso-achtig stuk van Sonny Rollins) is duidelijk hoorbaar onder de indruk van Neil Young en het conglomeraat aan pseudoniemen waaronder weirde Will Oldham opereert, maar hij voegt iets heel fris en fruitigs toe aan zijn Noorse buitenstaanders-kijk op americana: een toefje volksmuziek van eigen bodem.

Thomas Hansen has sanctified himself. If he hadn’t done so, the media would have, for St. Thomas has made a deep impression. His second album ‘Hey Harmony’ - such a fitting title – received the same critical acclaim as his debut ‘I’m Coming Home’. St. Thomas (there’s also an island of the same name, and a calypso-type of piece by Sonny Rollins) is clearly impressed with Neil Young and the conglomerate of pseudonyms under which weird Will Oldham operates, but he adds something so fresh and fruity to his original Norwegian version of Americana: a dash of folk from his homeland.
