‘Halldor Laxness’, wat een geweldige naam voor een album. En dan te bedenken dat het debuut van Minus ook al niet mis getiteld was, want dat heette ‘Jesus Christ Bobby’. Wat of wie Halldor Laxness precies is, daar kom je toch niet achter als we het je niet vertellen: het is een IJslandse schrijver, die ooit zelfs de Nobelprijs voor de literatuur in de wacht sleepte. Zo ver zal Minus het wel niet schoppen, al liegen liedjes als ‘My Name Is Cocaine’ en ‘Insomniac’ er niet om. De vier van Minus zijn gevoelige twintigerszielen, die hun dagelijkse downs en hun nachtelijke ups omzetten in heftige songs vol metallische gitaarriffs en donkergekleurde psychedelica. KatieJane, de dappere voorvrouw van Queen Adrena, staat de jongens bij in het ijle, per definitie herfstige ‘Last Leaf Upon The Tree’.

You won’t find out what or who Halldor Laxness is, if we don’t tell you, so here we go: he’s a writer from Iceland, who even won the Nobel Prize for literature. A prize Minus are not likely to win, however glorious songs like ‘My Name Is Cocaine’ and ‘Insomniac’ are. The four sensitive souls in their twenties translate their daily downs and nightly ups into intense songs full of metallic guitar riffs and dark psychedelics. KatieJane, Queen Adrena’s brave front woman, joins them in the elusive and by definition autumnal ‘Last Leaf Upon The Tree’.
