| Of Robert Lee hors concours op Noorderslag meedoet is niet helemaal
duidelijk, maar wij hebben de moed niet om hem naar zijn paspoort
te vragen. Feit is dat hij uit Jamaica stamt, feit is ook dat hij
zich diep genesteld heeft in Neerlands muziekleven. Althans, The
Anonymous Mis, voorman van The Postmen en producent van Anouks jongste,
had ook de touwtjes in handen bij Lees sterke staaltje In Fine Style.
Samen laten ze overtuigend horen dat reggae tegenwoordig terecht
een world beat is, die ook buiten Jamaica bestaansrecht heeft. Dat
wisten we al van de successen van Popprijswinnaars Postmen, in essentie
immers een reggaeband, en dat wordt hier nog eens bevestigd. Aan
de andere kant klinkt In Fine Style toch weer des te authentieker
vanwege Lees afkomst uit de beruchte wijk Water House in Kingston.
Maar dat Lees carrière pas op gang kwam in ons kille kikkerlandje,
na omzwervingen in de reggae-industrie van Jamaica en Engeland,
is een grillige speling van het lot die ons toch een sterk debuutalbum
en een bijpassend hitje (Stress) opleverde.

| Robert Lee is originally from Jamaica but has now settled comfortably
in the Dutch music scene. The Anonymous Mis, front man with The
Postmen and producer of Anouk's latest CD, was also in charge with
Lee's fabulous In Fine Style. The two men show that reggae is definitely
and deservedly a world beat. While the successes of Popprijs-winner
The Postmen already proved this, Lee confirms it once again. In
Fine Style sounds somewhat more authentic because of his time in
the infamous district Water House in Kingston. But Lee's career
only really got on track in the Netherlands, after roaming about
in the reggae industry in Jamaica and England, finally resulting
in a strong debut CD and a modest hit single Stress.
