zegt Deep Dish, het Amerikaanse duo dat met souvereine hand regeert
over de house en graag de platen van Laidback Luke op de draaitafels
legt. Deze jonge Nederlander van Filippijnse komaf heeft al heel
wat teweeg gebracht. Allereerst met zijn uiterst dansbare 12-inches
en zijn verdienstelijke debuutalbum, maar pas met zijn tweede cd
Electronic Satisfaction is echt duidelijk geworden waar dit jonge
talent wel niet toe in staat is. Want wat hij daarop al niet aan
elkaar klinkt! House natuurlijk, maar ook gitaarrock, synthipop
uit het even vermaledijde als populaire tijdvak van de jaren tachtig,
hiphop, besmettelijke popliedjes en zelfs een verrassende en ook
nog verdienstelijke poging tot singer-songwriter. Laidback Luke
kan het allemaal, en hoe. Een man die in staat is om zich in hoog
tempo te ontwikkelen, dat schept hoop voor de toekomst.

This young Dutchman who's originally from the Philippines has accomplished
quite something. His extremely danceable 12 inches and debut album,
for one. But his second CD Electronic Satisfaction really shows
us what this talented man is capable of. He manages to combine house,
obviously, with guitar-oriented rock, synthipop, the infamous eighties,
hip hop, fragile pop songs, and he even makes an unexpected and
successful attempt at singer-songwriting. Laidback Luke can do it
all. His astonishing ability to grow is a promise for a great future.
