| Hoeveel kampioenen zou deze Noorderslag-editie tellen? In ieder
geval eentje, want DJ Kypski (Thomas Elbers) schreef een keer of
vier de Amsterdamse Turntablized-competitie op zijn naam, en dat
is in feite het officieuze Nederlandse kampioenschap plaatjes draaien
& scratchen. Dat is een wat oneerbiedige term voor wat C-mon
(Simon Akkermans) & Kypski zoal uithalen. Ze rekken de beginselen
van 'turntablism' (ware acrobatiek achter de draaitafels, met duizelingwekkende
ritmische geluidscollages als doorgaans welluidend gevolg) nog eens
flink op door ook nog eens fors uit te halen op de - met de voet
te bedienen - sampler en verschillende gastmuzikanten in te schakelen.
Al die geluidsbronnen worden gespiegeld in woeste echo's, die zich
aaneen rijgen tot een organisch klinkende mix op opjuinende beats.
Abstract en toch funky, dat is de insteek van dit duo die tot dusverre
vooral live aan den volke vertoond werd, maar die binnenkort ook
gewoon thuis, op het album Vinyl Voodoo, gevolgd kan worden.

| How many champions do you reckon will play this edition of Noorderslag?
At least one. DJ Kypski (Thomas Elbers) won the Amsterdam Turntablized
competition several times, which is in fact the officious Dutch
championship for DJ-ing and scratching. With his mate C-mon (Simon
Akkermans), Kypski gives new meaning to the term 'turntablism' (they're
true acrobats at the turntables, usually resulting in dazzlingly
rhythmical soundscapes) with a sampler ('played' by foot) and various
guest musicians. All these ingredients come out in furious echoes,
becoming an organic mix of exciting beats. Abstract and funky at
the same time. So far the duo only played live, but now they can
