| Ook in Frankrijk weten ze hoe mythisch Steve Albini, eregast en
leverancier van de keynote speech op het vorige Nederlands Popmuziek
Seminar, wel niet is. In navolging van Nirvana, Pixies, PJ Harvey
en Nederlandse geestverwanten als Caesar, Cords en Ex schaarde Dionysos
zich onder de productionele vleugels van deze inmiddels legendarische
muzikant en producer - al mag 't van hemzelf niet zo heten. In Chicago
legde hij de nummers van hun derde plaat Haïku op vertrouwd
fabuleuze wijze vast en voor het eerst sinds de oprichting in 1993
klonk de groep volstrekt uitgekristalliseerd. Okee, toefje Beck,
snufje Pixies, maar vooral heel veel Dionysos. Perfecte pop met
een dwarsige invalshoek en een gekarteld randje. En zangmelodieën
om te zoenen, kleddernat.

and keynote speaker on last year's Dutch Pop Music Seminar, is.
Following the footsteps of Nirvana, Pixies, PJ Harvey and the Dutch
Caesar, Cords and the Ex, Dionysos wanted this legendary musician
and producer to record their third. Thus Haiku was recorded in Chicago,
and for the first time since their founding in 1993 the band sounded
the way they should. Admittedly, you could find the odd bit of Beck
and Pixies here and there, but mostly what you heard was Dionysos.
Perfect pop, slightly rebellious and with a little sharp edge. Vocal
parts of sheer beauty.
